The annual pilgrimage for British sliders, and the like, to the surfing Mecca that is Boardmasters more than provided this year.
Situated in Newquay, and split in two, the music side is found overlooking Watergate bay, with an array of carnival ride attractions, food stalls, and plenty of beer flowing. It’s the perfect place to lose yourself amongst the various stages and quality acts.

Unwind watching the sunset over the horizon, and then party hard to some more exceptional live music, as many did with this year being hailed as the largest to date: 40,000 at the Watergate Bay site and 150,000 across the whole festival.
The sporting side is located down the road at Fistral, with BMX and Skateboarding events set up across the five days, and of course an abundance of surfing.
The competition was fierce, and the beautiful weather brought floods of people to the beach.
Sunday being the gloomiest of days, the ocean made up for it — providing some solid conditions to welcome back the WSL to Boardmasters for the Men’s and Women’s Longboard Qualifying events.
The ‘surf village’, just off the sand, was bursting with like-minded people, running various stalls, brought together by their immense love and passion for the ocean.
Boardmasters is surely something special with notable acts such as ‘Reef’ and ‘Sunset Sons’ who combine their love of music and surfing — finding a way to live the dream. It would be only natural that they’re drawn to such a festival and come out to represent the locals at this prestigious event.
Boardmasters is more than just a music festival, it’s more than just a surfing event. It’s a rare few days where you get to live how you dream of living every day: in good company, good waves, with beautiful sunshine and blue skies.
