As if the real things were not enough of a concern, the US navy has released a video of their latest project an autonomous shark drone called GhostSwimmer. Nicknamed Silent NEMO the robo-shark has been developed to swim into enemy territory, and it can also be used to guard and inspect the hulls of US navel ships.
Researchers from the Chief of Naval Operations Rapid Innovation Cell and Boston Engineering tested the prototype at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia. The robot can be controlled with a joystick or be programmed to swim on its own.
The unmanned underwater vehicle is able to make tight turns and move through the water quietly just like a real shark, making it ideal for surveillance missions.
