Big wave surfers sharing their favorite moments from swells across the planet in 4K resolution. The first installment features Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker and his thoughts on the historical swell that hit Puerto Escondido Oaxaca in May of 2015. Twiggy, two time winner of the Mavericks invitational as well as ASP Big Wave World Tour Champion, said about the day:
I got unlucky and got caught inside by one and just got completely mangled
“I got caught inside a couple of times on the big day. I just didn’t have enough paddle power to catch the waves that I wanted, and then eventually I got unlucky and got caught inside by one and just got completely mangled. I was actually squashed on the bottom with my vest inflated. The vest inflated and I was still squashed on the bottom and I could feel the vest fighting, eventually I was able to push off the bottom.”
Puerto Escondido, a small port in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, was hit by what locals have described as the heaviest surf the country has seen in well over a decade. Eyewitnesses coined the phrase “ the biggest paddle-in wave ever”. This may or may not be true but it is certainly the biggest Puerto Escondido has ever witnessed.
