Born on the south coast of Portugal in Portimão, Hugo now finds himself plying his trade near Lisbon in Carcavelos. Airwave: The inflatable surf reef

reef_thumbAn Australian has come up with a new type of artificial reef that could be the solution to our damaged ocean ecosystems. The Surfing Airwave works by anchoring a uniquely shaped sail on the bottom of the ocean, blowing it up with air and then waiting for the next swell to produce waves on it.
In its simplicity it sounds like a plan that could definitely work. That said, one imagines it is no mean feat to tie down a large sack of air especially while a large swell is bashing it from above.

Surfing GB one step closer to governing body recognition

surfinggb_thumbSurfing GB has announced that after three years of hard work it has now achieved Stage 1 of its application for recognition as governing body for UK surfing.
Surfing has not had a UK-wide Governing Body since the collapse of the British Surfing Association (BSA) in 2010 and as a result no major UK Government funding for Surfing has been available to help grassroots projects, support surf clubs, coaches and schools, or look after the safety and enjoyment of all those who surf in the UK.
