For the last two years Alex Rowse has ridden only displacement hulls, except for the odd log on small days. In between being a director of A-Side Design and being a partner in the founding o the Kook magazine with his partner in crime Dan Crockett, he can be found cruising around Cornish beaches looking for waves with his quiver of hulls.

After being inspired by Tom Wegner’s hollow plywood alaia, dubbed the Tuna, Mark Roberts set about creating an alaia with his own unique board building method of wood laminated EPS foam. The plan was to create an alaia that paddled better and was more user friendly in slower breaking waves, which we often have here in the UK. Minds in the Water documents Dave ‘Rasta’ Rastavich’s five-year journey from apathetic pro to respected ocean activist. The film was shown in Newquay on the 17th July as part of an evening to raise environmental awareness, that started with a vegetarian buffet at the always fresh and funky Cafe Irie, and finished with a charity auction at the Chy Bar.
