Nixon Presents: The Leveller

By Ben · On November 3, 2014

Nixon Presents: The LevellerThe brainchild of former WQS surfer Sam Lamiroy, The Leveller is a new and innovative collaboration between local schools and colleges and the grassroots surf scene.

The result? A unique surf competition that took place at Sennen Cove, preceded by coaching from top instructors and pro surfers alike, and a top-to-bottom beach clean up.

With locally sourced food and plenty of Nixon product to keep the kids satisfied and entertained when they weren’t in the water, The Leveller truly delivered on its promise by uniting surfers of all abilities, ages and genders in one contest format. All up against the same conditions in the line-up, as well as the same demanding judging criteria - but with a unique handicap scoring system - the surfers battled it out and were eventually split by just a few points. In the end, everyone left with a few tips to improve their surfing, new friends, good memories and some sick prizes - including a custom shaped “Cord” surfboard and matching Nixon Supertide watch for the overall winner.

“While this new format won’t be making an appearance at elite level, it definitely has the potential to revolutionize competition at grassroots level – it’s inclusive, fair and – judging by their smiles and laughter – so much fun for all the competitors.” Sam Lamiroy
