Quantum of the surf

By Tom · On March 6, 2015

With the most technologically advanced ship ever to sail offering patrons an ‘incredible’ surf experience we thought we had better take a closer look at the gargantuan ship that is meandering the world’s waterways.

Dubbed as ‘The world’s first smartship’ the Royal Caribbean vessel named the Quantum of the Seas certainly doesn’t hold back of technology, innovation and experiences.

If the temptation of a 40ft FlowRider surf simulator isn’t for you, then fear not as the list of activities is varied and wide

If perhaps you are a little older and the temptation of a 40ft FlowRider surf simulator isn’t for you, then fear not as the list of activities is varied and wide, including a climbing wall, dodgems, roller disco, casino, skydiving, vitality spa, hot-tub movie theatre, and the opportunity to meet Shrek to name just a few. The jewel in the crown of the monster mega-liner is the North Star (pictured below) which “promises to elevate you both physically and emotionally, revealing 360-degree views of a world you’ve truly never seen before” On top of this the is a whopping entertainment programme which is entitled ‘Broadway at Sea’ - with this much going on you wonder if you will ever have enough time to eat at one of the 18 celebrity chef endorsed restaurants.

The tech experience doesn’t end there though, along with all of the standard fare that one would expect like super-fast broadband (no matter how far you are from land) and a Bionic Bar—the first bar with robot bartenders - the ship goes much (much) further with the creation of virtual balconies. This means any room, no matter where it is positioned, will have a sea view of sorts. Live video will beam onto the giant iPad like screens that adorn the cabin walls giving you the very same view as the outer State rooms would have.

It may not be your idea of a perfect holiday but with the ship stopping at top surf destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas it would certainly beat most methods of getting there.
