A campaign highlighting one of the most contentious environmental decisions this year. In January, The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority confirmed a plan to dump five million tonnes of dredge spoil inside the World Heritage Site to expand the Abbot Point port.
The decision by the body tasked with protecting The Great Barrier Reef has disgusted and angered the scientific community, especially after it emerged that the project was authorised despite scientists recommending that it be abandoned.

This is such a sham. Yes the water they are talking about is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and it come right to the shore. But let me tell you there are not colourful reef fish and live coral in knee deep water on the shoreline. The reef is miles out to sea. I agree it is not ideal. But let me tell you they are not going to be dumping soil on the Great Barrier reef itself and covering up colourfull fish and coral. But yes it in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park which is huge and covers all sorts of waters.I lived and worked on Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef for 3 1/2 years on 42 acres 100klm out to sea and have spent 1500 hours under water out there.
