Sounds good right? This is Glassy Zone, a waterproof wearable piece of tech from the makers of the Glassy One pro watch, it aims to improve your surf and track your fitness while also keeping and eye on the UV rays you are exposed to.
With an influx of fitness tracking bands entering the market, from the Fitbit to the Nike Fuelband, wearable monitors have taken the market by storm but the Glassy Zone is the first to be aimed directly at surfers and the first to be waterproof.
Using the accelerometer, GPS and gyroscope the band measures the time a surfer takes on each wave
Working alongside an Android and iPhone app the Glassy Zone registers the user’s activities 24 hours a day including everything to do with personal rest, calories burned, ultraviolet radiation (UV) exposure, and activities carried out in the water including being able to compete with other users.
Using the accelerometer, GPS and gyroscope the band measures the time a surfer takes on each wave compared to the time he spends paddling, the maximum speed reached while surfing, the number of waves ridden in the session, as well as the route covered in the water.
Additionally, when the user is in or out of the the water, the Glassy Zone has a sensor that detects the UV radiation received over the course of the day, alerting the user with an LED light when the maximum recommended level has been reached or surpassed.
The fitness band has been developed and created by a Spanish team of surfers
“Our users are passionate about surfing and have consistently requested not just a way to find and check out surf spots but how to really track their surfing activity. We developed Glassy Zone to allow them to track and better understand their performance while surfing in addition to other workouts out of the water ,” said Mikel Alonso, CEO of Glassy.
Early adopters of the Glassy Zone can pick up the tracker for $79USD (£51 + £13 for UK Shipping) on indiegogo now.
