Surfwear glides in and causes a stir

By Tom · On March 18, 2015

The female wetsuits market is being given a big shake-up in the smoothest way possible with the forward-thinking GlideSoul brand really making headway against the traditional surfwear stalwarts.

GlideSoul is the baby of pro-boarder Alena. Originally from Russia but now living in the UK

Since their hotly anticipated launch in 2014, the brand has rapidly become synonymous with creating unique women’s swimwear and wetsuits that push boundaries both in terms of design and functionality. Drift caught up with founder Alena Pishchulina and Georgie Boyers, marketing manager, to find out a little bit more about what makes the girls tick and what is planned for the future…

GlideSoul is the baby of pro-wakeboarder Alena. Originally from Russia but now living in the UK, Alena is also a highly skilled surfer, but this is just a passionate sideline. It is clear she lives and breaths for water sports and this enjoyment and desire is the driving force behind the rapidly successful brand.

The idea was born after Alena and some friends saw a gap in the market.

“I remember sitting with Alena and friends in Bali talking of this fantastic idea to get more women out on the water along with looking and feeling fabulous at the same time. From then to now it’s such an overwhelming sense of joy and happiness to see GlideSoul not only be born but to take the world by storm in such a short space of time” Georgie said

“Being an addicted rider, I am perfectly aware of the current requirements for swim & surf wear. With GlideSoul it becomes easy to be a girl in any situation: our products help the riders to be themselves and to express themselves on the water. We plan to develop the GlideSoul brand, concentrating on what women really need, making their dreams come true and giving them an opportunity to look bright and stylish on the water” Alena added

The team work closely with pro-riders found across the globe and from within the big cities to the small islands they all have one thing in common – the water is their playground

The product has already been launched in the US and Russia with great success. The UK launch is due for this month but the team has already been very active on these shores sponsoring such events as Wakestock in Wales and Surf Camps in Newquay. The remainder of this year will be no different with GlideSoul being involved with a stack of events including organising a European wake-surf tour consisting of four stops: Moscow, St Petersburg, Annecy in France, and the UK LDB wake school at JBSKI. Wake-surfing is something very close to the team’s hearts as a result they are trying to build awareness for the sport.

As well as running events, the team work closely with pro-riders found across the globe and from within the big cities to the small islands they all have one thing in common – the water is their playground.

From Russia and Japan to the US, Europe, UK and Bali, the team riders compete in all major events in surf, wakesurf, wakeboard, kite and windsurf and they are out week in week out testing the products in real situations.

“We have so many ambassadors testing the brand so we know what works on and off the water. Comfort is another huge thing for us - our Neoprene is super soft and stretchy. The shape contours, synching with you in all the right places. Everything is designed in-house so you can be sure that GildeSoul’s beautiful unique concept will feel and look amazing” Georgie said.

GlideSoul is coming to a store or event near you… you have been warned.
