A must read for any surfer who travels for their fix. This is the definitive list of airlines across the globe and how they charge for the safe (sometimes) delivery of your beloved ride.
Unfortunately surfboards are big and cumbersome, that is the reality. As a result taking your board away with you can not only be complicated but it can also smack a huge dent in your wallet. While some airlines are pretty straight forward with their policy, more often than not you can find yourself pouring through the small print to work out what the deal is.
Even talking to the airline on the phone doesn’t always reveal the truth with different operators spinning different yarns. There is no doubt that your heart is in your mouth when you arrive to check-in, never quite knowing if you have jumped through all of the hoops that airlines require.
All that can end right now though thanks to the hard work of LUEX Surf Travel who have painstakingly trawled through the interwebs and spoken to almost every airline imaginable to deliver this smart alphabetically ordered list. Simply check which airlines fly to your destination, and scroll down to check their policy.
Unfortunately airlines are free (and probably quite likely) to change their baggage policy whenever they like, so we would always advise double checking everything for yourself first!

Virgin Atlantic get my business every time now, worth noting if you’re a longboarder that although their limit says 9’0 if it’s over that (and they spot it, I’ve done 4 transatlantic flights with my 9’6 no problems) it’ll cost you £40 extra, and as long as you do stay within the size + weight limits you can have multiple boards in one bag without extra charges.
