They’re making a difference at The Happy Gallery Collective exhibition this summer where several artists have come together to create work to raise awareness and money for charity. The exhibition, based on the theme ‘Ocean and Pollution’, showcases work benefitting the charity - Surfers Against Sewage.

The Happy Gallery is a theme based art and design collective that donates 50% of it’s sales from pop-up galleries and it’s online store to charity.
Founded by James Andrew Cook, it raises awareness and funds for charities and champions young and emergent artists.
James states, “I wanted to find a way to give money to charities 24/7, and the answer for myself, a designer, was simple: Make stuff, sell stuff, raise awareness and give money to charities. I decided to take the idea further and ask other artists to join me. Collective and collaborative design with like minded passionate people who want to make a difference in the world, well I couldn’t think of anything that could make me happier”.
This summer’s Happy Gallery beneficiary - Surfers Against Sewage is an environmental charity protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably, via community action, campaigning, volunteering, conservation, education and scientific research.
SAS projects target environmental issues affecting beaches including marine litter, sewage pollution, climate change, toxic chemicals, shipping and coastal development. SAS has over 50,000 active supporters across the UK.

Making Waves
Titled, Making Waves, visitors to the Happy exhibition can expect to see many different styles of art including contemporary sculpture, illustration, 3D art and painted surfboards. The theme for the show is ‘Ocean and Pollution’ and you will see the dramatic differences in several artists translations of this common thread, from night time waves to ice cream cone skulls!
Thinking deeply about the materials used in producing the show, we have made every effort to use materials from ethical and sustainable sources. From the ink and paper used in the prints to the frames, canvases and even business cards. We’ve used printers that use water based inks, recycled ink cartridges and paper and picture with wood frames from sustainable forests.
Driven and supported by a larger team, the collective artists this summer are colleagues and friends; Ben Hewitt, Giles Dunn, Jack Crossing, James Andrew Cook, Maia Walczak, Mairi Hughes and Anna Mullin/Sneaky Raccoon.
You can buy original artwork and limited edition prints at the show. There will also be a raffle to win some prizes and the first 20 people through the door get a free Happy Gallery Surf Wax!

The Coningsby Gallery
Established in 1994 in London’s thriving Fitzrovia, The Coningsby Gallery has become renowned for its dedication to outstanding contemporary illustration and graphic art. Collaborating with both upcoming and internationally recognised artists, the gallery showcases a diverse range of fine, bold and innovative applied arts across the board.
The Coningsby Gallery is located 350 yards from Goodge Street Underground station. Warren Street, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street Underground stations are also within 5 – 6 minutes walk.
The Happy Gallery Collective’s Exhibition ‘Making Waves’ for Surfers Against Sewage takes place at the Coningsby Gallery Thursday 1st August – Saturday 3rd August 2013. The exhibition is open all day and entry is free. Free drinks will be available at the Open Reception on Thursday from 6pm.
