Meeting a legend is something few people have the opportunity to do. During a short stay in California last winter Dave Muir created his own luck in finding Skip Frye at home. He was welcomed in to take a look around. Words: Dave Muir Photos: Dave Muir and Skip Frye

Tucked away at the top of a hill near Gwenver beach in Cornwall, Skewjacks was the definitive 1970s surf camp. Drift took four of its founding fathers - Dicky, Harvey, Jamo and Mickey - to the pub and reminisced about good times gone by. Words: Jamie Bott Credit & thanks to Graham Shephard & Mel Sedgwick

God Went Surfing with The Devil is a film by Alex Klein, which documents the war-torn region of Gaza. At a time when tensions are high, this film investigates the attitudes and aspirations of a small pocket of people where surfing removes socio-political divisions and lets the ocean carry their aspirations for peace.

Self-confessed board hoarder Chris Preston expounds the delights to be found within his tardis-like garden shed, and explains how he came to favour the quiver approach to surfing. Photos by Jamie Bott [except no.3].

Wooden Surfboard Day 2013

July 01, 2013 | Words By:

This years wooden surfboard day will be held on Sunday the 4th of August in the park across the road from Currumbin Alley Beach. A great outlook back up to the Gold Coast skyline and beaches. So come early and have a morning surf at the point and then settle in for the day at the park.

Bring your boards, alaia’s, hand planes, body boards, surfies or what ever you have been building and having fun on as long as it is made of wood. Just lay them out in the park, find a spot to have a picnic lunch and meet other like minded wooden board builders, craftsmen and enthusiasts. There will be people from all walks of life just stoked to be riding something they have designed and built themselves, plenty of people who have lots of questions and stories to share just like you. Check out what others are up to, swap boards and go for a surf.

Around lunchtime Tom Wegener and a couple of others will get together to discuss boards, answer questions and share experiences. There is always plenty to learn and share and this is a great forum to become more informed.
