In a world of throw away cheap clothing one manufacturer has stood against the tide by launching a premium sweatshirt designed for life, guaranteed for 10 years and backed with free mending.
In the manufacturing industry, knowing that something will need to be replaced instead of fixed is known as “planned obsolescence”
It all started when the Flint and Tinder team overheard a conversation in a factory they were visiting. Someone was talking about using coarse thread with delicate fabric. Doing this accelerates the process of wearing holes into a garment as it goes through the dryer time and time again.
In the manufacturing industry, knowing that something will need to be replaced instead of fixed is known as “planned obsolescence.” Increasingly it’s become the norm they explained
So Flint and Tinder set out to make a premium piece that’s so well constructed customers would rather have it mended than replaced.
According to the team behind the product “It’s more than a sweatshirt though; it’s a battle cry. Not everything should be disposable. It’s time to buy less, but get more!”
The project was launched on Kickstarter and obviously struck a chord with disenchanted people across the globe as the campaign raised 1 million dollars over their initial target of just $50,000 USD (£32,000).
Now the hysteria has died down and all of the backers are some way into their 10 year tenure (with no obvious complaints) the 10 year hoodie is available to mere morals.
