It’s a not her first Boardmasters, but this year Lee-Ann Curren and her band, Betty The Shark made their performance debut on the View Stage, against a blue-sky backdrop here at Watergate Bay.
With 3x world champion Tom Curren also playing, this year’s festival is a real family affair for her, and we caught up to see what they’re up to this weekend.
Lee-Ann it’s great to see you guys here! How did you get into playing bass ukulele?
It’s pretty unusual! I got it whilst we were in Hawaii, we wanted something small to travel with and my dad told me about this little bass. I tried it and the sound is really big, I loved it.
What do you think of boardmasters festival?
I love it, the stages are great and the sun is out. I came about 10 years ago and then five years ago, it’s nice to see how it’s changed.
Thoughts on the surfing?
It’s so great, they’re covering all the areas and the men’s and women’s longboarding is sick.
Are you sticking around? Who are you looking forward to seeing?
We’re definitely going to stick around, watch my dad on this stage later and then Wolf Alice!
What’s next for you?
We’re heading to Paris next and then onto Germany. Doing a little tour!
